World Vovinam Championship 2009 will be held at Quan Khu 7 Sporting Event Hall in Ho Chi Minh City from July 26 to 31 with the participation of 14 countries.

160 athletes to join the tournament come from 14 countries, namely Australia, France, Italia, Germany, Russia, Belarus, Cambodia, Indian, Iran, Thailand, Ukraina, Poland, Romania and Vietnam. They will compete in two disciplines of Freestyling and Techniques. A total of 30 medals will be awarded, including 18 for Techniques and 12 for Freestyling.

In the opinion of Vice-president of Vietnam Vovinam Federation Nguyen Van Chieu, France and Italia look good at Techniques while Russia, Thailand and Iran have the advantage of Freestyling. However, the host Vietnam targets at the first prize for entire team.

This is an occasion for Vovinam disciples all over the world to gather and compete the Vietnamese national martial arts right in the ancestral country. It also will motivate for the first attendance of Vovinam at the Asian Indoor Games in November 2009, said President of Vietnam Vovinam Federation Le Quoc An.

Right after the tournament, Vietnam Vivonam Federation will organize another tournament called Pre-Asian-Indoor-Games for five countries Thailand, Iran, India, Cambodia and Vietnam at Quan Khu 7 Sporting Event Hall on July 30. It will consist of 14 medals, 8 of which go to Techniques and the rest go to Freestyling.
